Both hot water boilers and steam boilers are types of industrial thermal energy equipment. They differ in purpose, operating pressure, installation requirements, accessories, and applications. Choosing the right one depends on your specific production needs.
Gas-fired boilers can be divided by output medium into gas-fired hot water boilers and gas-fired steam boilers. Both are boilers, but they work in very different ways.
1. Differences in Purpose
An industrial hot water boiler produces hot water. It is commonly used in galvanizing, chemical processing, timber drying, space heating, bathing facilities, and the hospitality industry.
An industrial steam boiler produces steam. It is widely used in food and animal feed processing, textile printing and dyeing, papermaking and packaging, building materials and rubber manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals and chemicals.
2. Differences in Pressure
Hot water boilers can be divided by pressure into atmospheric (non-pressurized) and pressurized types. Atmospheric models are more common.
Steam boilers generally operate under pressure. They are classified as pressure vessels.
3. Differences in Installation
Atmospheric hot water boilers do not operate under pressure. They do not require official filing or inspection during installation. They can start operation right after installation and commissioning.
Steam boilers are pressure vessels. Their installation requires inspection and acceptance by local quality inspection authorities. They can only be put into operation after passing this acceptance process.
4. Differences in Accessories
Hot water boilers do not operate under pressure, so they do not need pressure gauges or steam headers. However, they must have water level gauges.
Steam boilers require both pressure gauges and water level gauges.
